About Korean Ajumma

Korean Ajumma는 한국에서 아기를 키우며 일하는 한 한국인 엄마의 실제 일상에서 시작한 블로그입니다. 교과서 속 한국어보다, 한국 사람들이 일상에서 실제로 어떻게 말하고 살아가는지를 보여드리고 싶어요.

Korean Ajumma is a blog that began with the everyday life of a Korean working mom raising a young child in Korea. Rather than textbook Korean, I want to share how Koreans actually speak and live in real life.

저도 영어를 배우고 싶어서 이 블로그를 시작했습니다. 제가 여러분에게 실제 한국인이 사용하는 한국어와 한국 생활을 보여드리는 대신, 여러분도 여러분의 언어와 문화에서는 실제로 어떻게 말하고 생활하는지 알려주면 좋겠다고 생각했어요.

I also started this blog because I want to learn English. While I share the Korean language and everyday life I actually experience, I hope you’ll also teach me how people really speak and live in your language and culture.

그리고 이곳에는 한국어와 한국 문화뿐 아니라, 제 아기가 조금씩 자라가는 모습도 함께 담고 싶어요. 아이와 함께 밥을 먹고, 놀고, 어린이집에 가고, 여행하고, 새로운 것을 배우는 평범한 하루들이 결국 제가 여러분에게 보여드리고 싶은 진짜 한국 생활이기 때문입니다.

I also want this blog to capture little pieces of my child’s growing-up years. Eating together, playing, going to daycare, traveling, and learning new things may seem like ordinary moments, but they are also part of the real Korean life I want to share.

저는 이런 실제 생활 속 이야기를 바탕으로 REAL KOREAN, AROUND KOREA, FREE TOOLS 콘텐츠를 만들고 있습니다. 검색을 위해 경험을 만들어내기보다는, 제가 실제로 보고, 먹고, 말하고, 방문하고, 만들고, 사용한 것에서 이야기를 시작하려고 합니다.

I create content through three main categories: REAL KOREAN, AROUND KOREA, and FREE TOOLS. Rather than creating experiences just for content, I want each story to begin with something I actually said, saw, ate, visited, made, or used in real life.

I teach you real Korean.
You teach me your real language. 💛

 REAL KOREAN #01 · MORNING   잘 잤어? ☀️ Real Korean from a Korean Mom’s Morning Around 7 a.m., jini’s day begins. I open the curtains and say, “지니야, 잘 잤어?” Jini, did you sleep well? This is how our morning starts. ☀️   지니 + 야 → 지니야 ❤️ In Korean, -아 / -야 is often added to a name when casually calling someone close to you. If the name ends in a vowel, we usually use -야 . So 지니 → 지니야! 💧 “물 마셔~” When jini gets up, I give her a glass of water. 물 마셔~ Have some water. And when she wants more, she says, “물 더 주세요.” More water, please. Sometimes, “물 더 줘요.” More water, please. And when it’s something she really likes... “더 줘요~!” 😋 More, please! 💡 주세요 is a little more polite than 줘요 . REAL KOREAN #03 · TTEOKBOKKI   Today's Real Korean Today, my husband and I went on a little tteokbokki date . ❤️ It had been a while since just the two of us went out for something simple to eat. And there it was — 떡볶이!   Our tteokbokki came bubbling hot in a 뚝배기 , a traditional Korean earthenware pot. Bubbling sauce, chewy rice cakes... I took one bite and said, “와, 진짜 맛있다!” Wow, this is so good! We kept eating... and eating... until there was almost nothing left. 😋 In the end, “싹싹 긁어먹었어요.” We scraped the pot clean. Nothing fancy.
