 REAL KOREAN #05 · SAMGYEOPSAL 🥩 🌿 Today's Real Korean 오늘 점심은 가족과 외식을 했어요. 메뉴는 삼겹살! 한국 사람들이 정말 좋아하는 음식 중 하나예요. 불판 위에 삼겹살을 올리고 노릇노릇하게 구워 먹어요. Today, I went out for lunch with my family. We had samgyeopsal (삼겹살) , one of Korea's favorite foods. We grill thick slices of pork belly right at the table until they're nicely browned. 그런데 한국에서는 삼겹살을 그냥 고기만 집어 먹기도 하지만, 쌈을 싸서 먹는 것 도 정말 흔해요. 상추나 깻잎을 손바닥에 올리고, 삼겹살 한 점과 쌈장, 파채 같은 반찬을 올려 한입에 먹어요. In Korea, we don't always eat samgyeopsal by itself. A very common way to enjoy it is to make a ssam (쌈) . Put a lettuce or perilla leaf in your hand, add a piece of grilled pork belly, ssamjang, and some side dishes, then wrap it all up and eat it in one bite. 오늘은 상추에도 싸 먹고, 제가 좋아하는 깻잎 에도 싸 먹었어요. 깻잎은 향이 강해서 삼겹살과 정말 잘 어울려요. 이렇게 채소에 고기와 반찬을 올려 싸서 먹는 걸 한국에서는 자연스럽게 “쌈 싸 먹다.” 라고 해요.  FREE TOOLS · 2027 CUSTOM PHOTO CALENDAR 📅 💛 I Wanted to Make a Calendar with Our Family Photos    |  우리 가족 사진으로 달력을 만들고 싶었어요 핸드폰에는 딸 지니의 사진이 정말 많아요.  매일 찍어둔 사진인데 시간이 지나면 수많은 사진 속에 묻혀버리더라고요. 가끔 예전 사진을 보다 보면 “작년에는 이렇게 작은 아기였는데, 벌써 이렇게 컸네.” 하고 새삼 놀라기도 해요. I have so many photos of my daughter, Jini, on my phone.  As time passes, those little memories get buried among thousands of other pictures. Sometimes I look back and think, “She was so tiny just a year ago. She’s grown so much already.” 그래서 좋아하는 사진을 골라 매일 볼 수 있는 달력으로 만들면 좋겠다는 생각이 들었어요. 먼저 한 달짜리 달력을 A4로 출력해 냉장고에 붙여봤는데 생각보다 정말 마음에 들었어요.  AROUND KOREA #01-1 · SAEBYEOL OREUM 🌿 🌿 Today, Korean Ajumma is climbing an oreum! 제주에 도착한 날은 비가 왔어요. 회색 하늘에 구름도 잔뜩 끼어 있어서 조금 아쉬웠지요. 그런데 집으로 돌아가는 날, 아침에 밖을 보니 언제 그랬냐는 듯 하늘이 정말 맑았어요. “와, 오늘 날씨 진짜 좋다!” The day I arrived in Jeju , it was raining. The sky was gray and cloudy, so I was a little disappointed. But on the day I was going home, I looked outside and found a completely different Jeju waiting for me. “Wow, the weather is so nice today!” 이런 날 그냥 공항으로 갈 수는 없잖아요. 😆 그래서 비행기를 타기 전, 새별오름 으로 향했어요. AROUND KOREA #01 · JEJU ISLAND  한국의 여기저기 #01 · 제주도 🌿 Today, Korean Ajumma is in Jeju! 어제, 출장으로 제주도에 왔어요. 제주도는 우리나라 남쪽에 있는 섬으로, 한국 사람들이 정말 사랑하는 여행지 중 하나예요. 출장으로 왔지만, 제주에 오면 언제나 여행 온 것처럼 설레요. Yesterday, I came to Jeju Island for a business trip. Jeju is an island off the southern coast of Korea and one of Koreans' favorite places to visit. I'm here for work, but coming to Jeju always makes me feel like I'm on vacation. 제주는 아름다운 바다로 유명하지만, 바다만 있는 섬은 아니에요. 섬의 중심에는 한라산이 있고, 곳곳에 오름이 솟아 있어요. 검은 현무암으로 쌓은 돌담, 감귤밭, 그리고 제주 바다와 함께 살아온 해녀도 만날 수 있지요. Jeju is famous for its beautiful sea, but there's much more to the island. Hallasan Mountain rises at its center, and oreum dot the landscape.  REAL KOREAN #04 · GROCERY SHOPPING 🛒 Today's Real Korean 오늘은 아기와 같이 마트에 장을 보러 갔어요. Today, I went grocery shopping with my little one. 아기는 카트에 앉아서 마트 구경하는 걸 아주 좋아해요. She loves sitting in the cart and looking around the supermarket. 냉장 코너를 지나갈 때마다 이것저것 가리키느라 바빠요. As we passed the refrigerated section, she was busy pointing at everything. 그동안 엄마는 필요한 물건을 하나씩 카트에 담아요. Meanwhile, Mom puts everything we need into the cart. “우유 샀고, 계란 샀고… 또 뭐 사야 되지? ” “We got milk and eggs… what else do we need?” 가격을 비교하다가 더 싼 걸 발견하면, “어? 이게 더 싸네.” “Oh, this one's cheaper.” 살까 말까 고민되는 물건 앞에서는, “이거 살까?” “Should we get this?” 그런데 집에 있는 것 같기도 하고…. “이거 집에 있지 않아?” “Don't we already have this at home?” 이 말도 장 볼 때 정말 많이 하죠. 😂 필요한 걸 다 담았으면 이제 계산대로 갑니다. “다 샀지? 이제 계산하자. ” “We got everything, right? REAL KOREAN #03 · TTEOKBOKKI   Today's Real Korean Today, my husband and I went on a little tteokbokki date . ❤️ It had been a while since just the two of us went out for something simple to eat. And there it was — 떡볶이!   Our tteokbokki came bubbling hot in a 뚝배기 , a traditional Korean earthenware pot. Bubbling sauce, chewy rice cakes... I took one bite and said, “와, 진짜 맛있다!” Wow, this is so good! We kept eating... and eating... until there was almost nothing left. 😋 In the end, “싹싹 긁어먹었어요.” We scraped the pot clean. Nothing fancy. REAL KOREAN #02 · MOSQUITO BITE 🦟 Today's Real Korean This morning, Jini woke up with one eyelid really swollen . I was surprised when I saw her. “Oh! What happened to your eye?” Then I looked closely. A mosquito bite! 🦟 So I said, “모기에 물렸어요.” You got a mosquito bite. “간지러워요?” Is it itchy? And of course, she wanted to scratch it. “긁으면 안 돼.” Don’t scratch it. Okay, Jini. “약국에 연고 사러 가자.” Let’s go to the pharmacy and get some ointment. Just a small morning in our Korean home — and four Korean phrases you can actually use. 😊

 REAL KOREAN #01 · MORNING   잘 잤어? ☀️ Real Korean from a Korean Mom’s Morning Around 7 a.m., jini’s day begins. I open the curtains and say, “지니야, 잘 잤어?” Jini, did you sleep well? This is how our morning starts. ☀️   지니 + 야 → 지니야 ❤️ In Korean, -아 / -야 is often added to a name when casually calling someone close to you. If the name ends in a vowel, we usually use -야 . So 지니 → 지니야! 💧 “물 마셔~” When jini gets up, I give her a glass of water. 물 마셔~ Have some water. And when she wants more, she says, “물 더 주세요.” More water, please. Sometimes, “물 더 줘요.” More water, please. And when it’s something she really likes... “더 줘요~!” 😋 More, please! 💡 주세요 is a little more polite than 줘요 . At home, you'll hear both. 🍎 “아침 먹자~” Then it’s breakfast time. 아침 먹자~ Let’s have breakfast.
