🌿A Family Outing on a Cool Day_
Last weekend, my family went out for samgyeopsal, Korean BBQ. After a big lunch, we stepped outside and realized that the weather had become pleasantly cool. Until recently, it had been too hot to stay outside for long, but now there was a cool breeze in the air.
“The weather is nice. Shall we go out and get some fresh air?”
So instead of going straight home, we took a little trip outside the city. We went to a farm café where we could see cows up close. It felt so nice to get away from the busy city and spend some time somewhere quiet with fresh air.
Cows and a Little Tractor
Jini spent a long time looking at the cows up close. Seeing such a big animal right in front of her seemed fascinating. She fed the cows some hay and even climbed onto a little tractor at the farm.
Watching her get excited about the cows and the tractor made us happy too. When Jini is having fun, both MJ and I enjoy the day even more. These days, the best part of a family outing isn't necessarily what we do. It's watching our child discover something new.
Autumn Is on Its Way
We took a slow walk around the farm. Flowers were still blooming, but a few autumn leaves had already fallen onto the path. Jini picked up a fallen leaf and carried it around in her hand.
When I looked up, the sky seemed higher than it did in summer. In Korea, people often say “하늘이 높다” in autumn. It doesn't literally mean we're measuring the height of the sky. It's a natural way to describe the clear, wide-open feeling of an autumn sky.
The hot summer is passing, the weather is getting cooler, and a pleasant breeze is finally beginning to blow. We had samgyeopsal and simply said, “Shall we go out and get some fresh air?” There was nothing elaborate about our little trip, but maybe that's exactly why it felt so good.
🍂 Today’s Words
선선하다 · seonseonhada
to be pleasantly cool
This describes weather that feels pleasantly cool—not hot, but not cold either. You'll hear it often in Korea as summer turns into autumn.
바람 · baram
wind / breeze
Baram means “wind,” but 바람을 쐬다 often means more than simply feeling the wind. It can mean going outside for some fresh air and a change of scenery.
낙엽 · nagyeop
fallen leaf / fallen leaves
Leaves that have fallen from trees, especially in autumn.
건초 · geoncho
hay
Dried grass used as feed for animals such as cows and horses.
